If you’re thinking about moving to Semiahmoo, chances are you’ve already seen the photos—the water, the golf course, the marina and those incredible sunsets. It’s beautiful, no question. But what is it actually like to live here?

After more than 30 years of selling real estate in Semiahmoo, we can tell you there’s a reason people come here and stay. And there’s also a reason we see people leave the area, only to eventually find their way back.

Semiahmoo Feels Like a Getaway—But People Actually Live Here

Semiahmoo sits just outside of Blaine, Washington, surrounded by water, beaches, walking trails and open space. On a clear day, the views across the water can be spectacular, and depending on where you are in the community, you’ll find views of Drayton Harbor, Semiahmoo Bay, Mt. Baker and the surrounding mountains.

It can feel surprisingly removed from everyday life, even though I-5 and downtown Blaine are only minutes away.

One of our favorite things about Semiahmoo is that there isn’t just one type of neighborhood or home. You’ll find waterfront condos, golf course homes, gated neighborhoods, townhomes, low-maintenance properties and custom homes on larger lots.

That variety is a big part of what makes Semiahmoo work for so many different stages of life.

Yes, There’s Golf. But Semiahmoo Is Much More Than Golf.

The Arnold Palmer-designed Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club is certainly a big part of the community. Many homes sit directly on or near the course, and golf carts are a pretty common sight around here.

But you definitely don’t have to be a golfer to love living in Semiahmoo.

There are miles of walking trails, beach access, parks, the marina, boating, crabbing, kayaking and plenty of places to simply get outside. Some of the best evenings are the simplest ones—a walk near the water or watching the sun go down over the bay.

Semiahmoo Resort is also right here, with dining, spa services and beautiful waterfront spaces that make it pretty easy to feel like you’re on vacation without actually going anywhere.

The Canadian Border Is Really Close

This is something buyers from outside the area don’t always realize.

Semiahmoo is only minutes from the Canadian border, making Vancouver and the Lower Mainland surprisingly accessible. We work with many homeowners who have connections on both sides of the border, whether for work, friends or simply enjoying everything Vancouver has to offer.

Bellingham is roughly 25–30 minutes south, giving you easy access to shopping, restaurants, healthcare and the Bellingham International Airport.

It’s a unique location: tucked away and peaceful, but not nearly as isolated as it might look on a map.

The Neighborhoods Each Feel a Little Different

This is where having someone who really knows Semiahmoo matters.

A home overlooking the golf course can feel completely different from a condo near the water. Some buyers want a gated neighborhood. Others want low-maintenance living where they can lock the door and travel. Some are searching specifically for a water view, while others would rather have privacy, a larger lot or easy access to the trails.

Even within Semiahmoo, location matters.

We always tell buyers not to just search for a house—figure out which part of Semiahmoo fits the way you want to live.

There’s a Strong Sense of Community

This may be our favorite part.

Semiahmoo is beautiful, but the people are what make it home. Neighbors get to know one another. People meet on the golf course, on the trails, at the marina and through community events.

It’s also one of those places where people tend to look out for each other.

We’ve been fortunate to work with homeowners here for decades, and many of our clients have become longtime friends. That’s probably the best testament we can give to the community.

What About the Weather?

This is the Pacific Northwest, so yes—we get rain.

But we also get beautiful summers, long evenings and some absolutely incredible spring and fall days. Being this close to the water means the weather can change quickly, and winter can be quiet.

For many people who live here, that’s part of the appeal. There is something pretty special about watching a storm roll across the water from your living room.

And when summer arrives, Semiahmoo really shines.

Is Semiahmoo a Good Place to Live?

That depends on what you’re looking for.

If you want to be in the middle of a big city with everything outside your front door, Semiahmoo probably isn’t it.

But if you’re looking for beautiful surroundings, access to the water, golf, trails, a strong community and a quieter pace of life—while still being close to Bellingham and the Canadian border—Semiahmoo is worth a serious look.

We’ve watched this community grow and change over the years, but the things that make it special really haven’t changed much.

The water. The sunsets. The open spaces. And most importantly, the people.
